Idiot Proof Cocktails

If you plan on entertaining a lady or two this summer, having a couple of cocktails in your hosting arsenal is a must. Making one from scratch will make you seem James Bond level sophisticated – so our resident mixologists have invented the most impressive (and idiot proof) whistlewetters for you to employ as your date night go-tos.

Just be careful who you mix them for, because these bad boys are pantydroppers. You’ve been warned.

Your summer is about to get better!

• Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey
• Peach iced tea
• Lemon or peach (to garnish)
• Ice

This drink is quick, looks great and requires almost zero effort. Commit it to memory. Grab any fancy glass and in a 30ml shot of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey (although any honey whiskey or bourbon will work). Add a few cubes of ice, and top off with around 100ml of peach iced tea. Give it a good stir and garnish (make it pretty) with a slice of lemon or peach.

• Blue Curacao liqueur
• Absolut Citron
• Cranberry juice
• Lime
• Sugar
• Ice

Refreshing, sweet & with a bold pop of colour, the Oceangasm delivers what it promises. Put your cocktail glasses in the freezer ahead of time to make this little beauty even more impressive. First cut your lime in half, and run the wet edge around the rim of the glass. Sprinkle sugar on a plate, then dunk the edge of the glass in the sugar. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add a 30ml shot of Absolut Citron (any zesty or plain vodka will do the job), and a 30ml shot of Blue Curacao. Squeeze in a dash of juice from your lime, and then 2 – 3 double shots of cranberry juice.

Shake the shit out of it, then serve.

• Malibu Coconut Rum
• Soda water
• 1 lime
• Sugar
• Mint leaves
• Ice

This twist on the classic Cuban cocktail is perfect for hot nights, offering refreshing and sweet flavours topped with a zesty kick. To start, cut a whole lime (or lemon) in half, slice off a thin wedge to put aside, and squeeze the juice into a glass. Add a teaspoon of sugar, throw in a few mint leaves, and then gently crush it all together a few times with a muddler or wooden spoon to release the flavours in the mint. Add around 60ml, or 2 double shots, of Malibu (or Bacardi if she’s not keen on coconut), fill the rest of the glass with soda water, plonk in a couple of ice cubes and stir. Take the thin lime or lemon wedge you saved earlier, cut it in half, and pop it in the mix to dress it up.
